No Men Allowed!

Monday 22 February

Attended a training session today, I learnt alot of development techniques that can improve efficiency and aid development.  Will definately try and use it personally.  The other good thing about the course was that it finished at 4pm and was close to a gym so I got a session in and was home by 5:45pm.  Happy Days!!

I'll try not to use that gym again though, as they were showing Sky Sports news.  That other gym I attend only shows Music channels.  I'm tired of seeing Alexandra Burke and JLS aren't there any other musicians out there?

A rethink is required regarding the 'Race for life'.  I learnt this morning from a trusted friend and confirmed later this evening that the Race for life is discrimatorary towards men and that only females can participate.  There was a brief conversation about growing my hair and applying bonding and saying I'm mid way through a trans gender operation.  But nah! that's not happening 'DN'!  DN is now looking for an alternative 5k race for me!

Race for Life

Sunday 21 February

Another challenge has been set.  You ready for it?  I've been challenged to 'run' the Race for Life in June or July. I'm not allowed to walk or jog it.   I've not yet gone on their website but I'll let you know the date as soon as I know.  Its a 5k run.  I need to convert that into miles to fully comprehend how far that is.  I'm up for the challenge and hope to raise a bit of money.  When I have my donations link set up, feel free to contribute.

This is a challenge I'm looking forward to, as it gives me an aim, in the sense of me going to the gym.  I can work towards getting fit for the race.  Instead of just, weight loss!!

Today, is my birthday.  Part of me was wishing that today was the Carling Cup Final and I was going to put a case together for me to watch the final as a birthday present to myself!!!  Don't worry, I won't make the same case for next week as I don't do belated presents.

The way you make me feel

Saturday 20 February

Today took me back and made me realise why I started this challenge in the first place. I felt a feeling today I have not felt for ages. My brother came and collected his daughter from my house and in conversation with my wife and sister-in law stated that Man Utd lost today. I felt deflated and annoyed at the news and its made me blog about my feelings. As I right now I'm annoyed at them as I had a feeling that they were doing alright and was totally shocked as I thought they were playing in the Carling Cup Final tomorrow. It shows you how out of touch I am. It has reenforced my challenge as I don't enjoy feeling this way. Some people may laugh but I'm sure there's a couple of hundred if not thousands of Football fans who get this feeling after a defeat.

I've not blogged for a while as nothing of significance has happened and in fact the challenge was or had become quite dry and I struggled with things to write and say. I did say in earlier blogs that I wasn't going to blog for the sake of it. To rejunvenate the blog and challenge, I met with my Cousin on Friday and we changed up the feel to the blog so that it looks fresh and he showed me how to insert images and videos into the blog so look out for those features in the next few blogs. I'll try and freshen things up. My cousin told me a few things about what was happening in the world of football and I was surprised to hear that Sol Campbell was back at Arsenal now there's a turn up for the books.  He did say a few other things as well.  He was shocked when some things he would of expected me to know and I didn't and then he remembered about the challenge.

Today, I learnt how to insert a poll onto my blog so hopefully a new interactive tool will also be an attraction for readers. Your opinions on what to poll on are most welcome.

A friend 'DN' has given me some advice on what I could do to improve the blogs so I've tried to take that on board. I've learnt that its not easy to leave comments here, so that's a little disappointing as I like to hear from readers. It acts as a little motivation for me.

Today was the second week of my PA systems course and today was difficult.  As part of the course, we have been given a date whereby we have to wire up a live show; which should be interesting.  Its a gospel concert.  When I have the details, I will post them here.  Feel free to attend and watch a master in action. (jokes) But seriously feel free to attend.

I'm tired of this challenge!

Wednesday 17 February 00:05

I'm tired both physically and of this challenge. I want to watch football simple, why am I doing this to myself? I think I'm actually having actual withdrawal symptoms, I feel myself sweating whilst writing this. It could be partially exhaustion from yesterday's gym session. I'm peeved, why did I set this challenge in the first place? It's all self inflicted and now that people are actually supporting it and following; its making giving up all the more difficult.

I watched the Brit Awards tonight, that was ok not great. I enjoyed Jay-Z's performance or should I say Jason-Z's performance. Peter, you need to work on those jokes. However, it was no substitute to watching United in the Champions League v AC Milan & David Beckham. I saw the result on the news and the goals! Yes, I watched them!!! Partly because I saw a F/B status say 'Get in there Milan' and I thought this to mean United had lost and I wanted clarity. I have been asked by a fellow United supporter whether or not I'm tempted to watch the highlights the answer is 'no' and even if it was yes, well I don't have SkySports to watch it anyway.

There's nothing else to say other than 'RH' and 'SD' thanks for the support and I'll soldier on. 'DN' I do have faith in my team and thanks for telling me they won!

Would I go again?

Monday 15 February

Payday, although I haven't checked my account but I believe the Council has enough funds to pay my salary.

I don't know if you've noticed but I find myself writing these blogs on a less frequent basis now, before it was daily. Catch up time again.

Saturday morning, I started the PA systems course. Very informative and its been taught really well. I look at a mixing desk now and see all the knobs and think well I know what they do and I'm not so stary eyed anymore. Before I used to see them like a spaceship launch pad!!!

In the evening, I attended the boxing event at Wembley arena. It was alright, not quite the same as attending a football match. I saw a couple of knock-outs. I'm not saying that boxing is a fix but all of the promoters fighters won. Now there's a surprise! No wonder there were no bookies at the event. Would I go again?, I probably would, but it would have to be for a major World title fight. I would like to see David Haye fight or Floyd Mayweather. One thing that was abit different to a football match that I noticed about boxing was the Women actually treated it like a night out and dress up for the occassion! Sorry the other difference being you can talk through a boxing match and not feel as if you have to concentrate 100% of your attention on the action.

Being so close to Wembley, I was asked what I was going to do next week, I didn't know what was happening next week. Was told its the Carling Cup Final. Oh great I genuinely don't know who United are playing and I'm not that bothered by it at all. Of course I hope they win but either ways it doesn't effect me.

My stress levels I'm sure have reduced. Before I used to concern my things about football matter that I have no control over whatsoever. I'll give you an example wondering when Hargreaves would be back from his knee injury, who will the centre back pairing be when Rio and Vidic were injured, when will we buy a striker to support Rooney, who will replace Ferguson?. Not knowing what's happening is like a breath of fresh air! What you don't know, can't hurt you!

I went gym tonight for the first time in ages, it felt good. I only did cardio vascular, not weights just easing myself in. had a health check a few weeks back and was informed I was over weight. No surprises there!!

TGIF

Friday 12 February

TGIF! You feel me people? Yes the weekend has arrived. Just writing a quick blog before I settle for the evening. Early rise tomorrow. The long awaited PA systems Course starts tomorrow. Much of a muchness today, not much really happened to write about. Tomorrow's going to be a bit more eventful hopefully.

Writing the blog has recently become a bit of a task, because its difficult to note what to record, as a first time reader sent me their comments today via e-mail and said a blog that's about giving up football really talks about football alot! Fair comment, but I did say previously I record events to show how difficult it is to remove oneself from the global phemonone that is football.

I mentioned my cousin's blog yesterday, I read it this evening, I enjoyed reading it. I hope that the enjoyment I received whilst reading that, that people who read this also find it enjoyable. I found myself relating to some of the comments he made.

Took a call from a close friend to say that the sex of his baby has been confirmed as a girl. 'MEP' congratulations brother!

I'm leaving you now to watch The Wire Episode 3.

Long Walk to Freedom

Thursday 11 February

Haven't been feeling the best lately and have been going to bed early, preventions better than cure, trying to fight off the Flu. You know when its coming on. Apologies over, if you've logged on and not seen anything for the last two days.

In no particular order - Here's the latest updates. I've found myself struggling these last few days really wanting to watch some football or the very minimum read an article. It's a killer, believe me. Not knowing who United played pre and post the Arsenal game has been frustrating, I really want to know. I do know Arsenal won last night as a colleague came to our office this afternoon wearing an Arsenal tie and cufflinks and said its because they won last night, don't know who they played or the result. All I know is that his suit, shirt and tie combination did not work. This isn't me being bad mind, don't worry I told him to his face!!

Last night on Facebook chat, a 'friend' was having a slight dig at me for not walking out of the barbers and they felt I should have done, they went on to explain that because of me they had left their Facebook status' and updates football free because of me, I appreciate the efforts. Although they did wind me up by saying they had to go to watch Match of the Day. I was so tempted.

I guessed Spurs lost last night as a Friend's Facebook status read. 'Will I ever hear the Champions league Anthem at White Hart Lane?'

Yesterday, was difficult as I met someone who I don't see often and we always talk football and not to be able to do that was difficult. He was pretty good though as usually he likes to run anti Man Utd jokes all the time. This time round he just publicly abused my suit!!

Portsmouth Football Club made mainstream news because of their winding up order so I saw that. Part of me blames Peter Storrie, surely he must shoulder some of the blame as surely he should have vetted the persons properly before he sold the club.

Talking of news - this morning my daughter asked for the tv to be turned on in my room. I put the channel on BBC2 to watch kids tv. Unbeknown to me I didn't know that children's newsround would have a sports report. The reporter blurted out that Chelsea only remain 1 point clear after their 2-1 defeat to Everton.. why oh why oh why? Happy to hear it though.

I learnt today that my cousin has started a blog - if your interested in music, music production check it out at http://te1productions.blogspot.com

Its 20 years since Nelson Mandela's release from prison. I remember the moment as it was shown on TV in Ireland, to be honest I only heard about Nelson Mandela on that day. However I remember it being a significant act because the particular programme over ran just to capture the event. What a remarkable statesman he is. I had the privilege of attending his 90th birthday celebration in Hyde Park in 2008.

The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth!

Monday 8 February

Yesterday I was engaged in a conversation about the happenings of Friday night and what happened with regards to the match. I was told that the reason for the blog was to record the details of the challenge on a day to day basis and say what has happeneded. That I cannot be illusive and not say what happened with regards to the match. I think the individual had a valid argument. The individual wasn't impressed that I avoided saying either way; however for some reason they felt to sabotage my challenge by shouting out that Chelsea beat Arsenal. So what did happen on Friday? here goes...

On Friday, when I entered the barber shop my first thought when I saw the game being played on tv was 'dilemna' do I stay or do I go? I needed to get my haircut there and then because I didn't have time to do it on Saturday. I couldn't stay in the barber shop and not watch it! I felt it was like fate to be there, as it was the game I hunted for so badly a couple of days before on Virgin. Now its in front of me how can I not watch it?

I thought about the legitimacy of the challenge and wether or not I should mention it on the blog but I thought if I didn't I'd only be deceiving myself and plus its not fair on the people who are genuinely interested and following the challenge. So now everyone knows!!!

But watching it felt great, actually it was orgasmic! - forget the German commentary that didn't matter, I loved watching it, but hated feeling out of the loop. Why wasn't Ferdinand and Vidic playing?, why was Valencia on the bench?, he was flying in December now he's a sub? However I didn't watch all of it, I left after 80 minutes.

Where does that leave the challenge?, well I still think its on, as I feel like a victim of circumstance and I didn't deliberately go somewhere to watch the match. I still haven't checked for scores, watched a live match. I genuinely know nothing about what's happening in the Championship, League 1, League 2 (Apart from the fact Dagenham and Redbridge lost on Saturday) and La Liga.

I'll tell you how I know that Dagenham and Redbridge lost its genuine. As the result of a competition we held through my work, the winning prize was some complementary tickets to watch Dagenham and Redbrige play. The game we had chosen for the winners to watch took place this weekend and as staff we were going to go. However because of this challenge I declined my ticket and was told this morning by my manager that its a good job we never went as they lost!

So is the challenge null and void? Let me have your comments...

Sunday 7 February 2010

McNulty you've got a death wish!

Sunday 7 February

Yesterday afternoon, I sat down to watch the Five Nations Rugby. I thought England were playing first but it transpired that Ireland were playing Italy, I watched the first 8 minutes and decided the game wasn't going to be neither competitive or entertaining so I decided to watch some of 'The Wire'. I watched the first two episodes. McNulty - you've got a death wish! I sat down to watch the England/Wales Rugby match which was entertaining, I didn't get to watch the game as I had to get ready to go out.

I attended another surprise birthday party last night. I went to the Ice Bar in Mayfair. I enjoyed myself. The food was great, compliments to the chef. I didn't think of Match of the Day once!! Although my friend did ask me if I saw what Man Utd did today.

I found out that Arsenal are playing Chelsea today! - Its quite funny how I found out though. Two boys were playing Table Football after church. The two teams are Blue and Red. One of the boys said we can be Chelsea and Arsenal they're playing each other today!!

When I went and collected the tickets for the Boxing event happening next week, they were watching the match in their house. I could see it through the blinds, I didn't see the score though!!

Saturday 6 February 2010

It's a Knock Out

Saturday 6 February

Catch up time!

Thursday evening I had a dose of Dejavu! I sat down to watch tv and my youngest daughter came to join me (the stay up late tactic) and said are we watching football daddy? My daughters know me well. Again I was sitting down to watch an episode of Top Gear which she joined me to watch before she fell asleep. Jay Leno was a great guest on the show.

Friday, saw me get the wheels in motion to attend a live sporting event. Something which I've never done. The only live sporting event, I've been to is a football match. I'm attending a boxing event at Webley arena next Saturday, it should be interesting, Danny Williams, Kevin Mitchell and James DeGale are all on the card. Should be collecting the tickets tomorrow (Sunday). All the affordable tickets have been sold out online, fortunately I know one of the boxers. Good times. Looking forward to that.

I had my haircut in the evening, only to find that the Man Utd v Arsenal match was being replayed on German television and it was on in the barber shop. I've been going for years and they've never ever showed a football match there!!! I had the moral dilemna of do I leave and do my hair another time or do I stay and face the temptation and watch? All I'll say is that I had my hair cut!!

Today, Saturday I had a relatively early rise in no small thanks to my youngest daughter. I paid my PA systems course fees that starts next Saturday bright and early. Looking forward to that. My afternoon appointment has been cancelled for genuine reasons. I'm looking forward to the 6 Nations Rugby which starts today, as I am a keen Rugby Union fan. It'll be my first live sporting event I've watched on tv all year.

Later on tonight, I've got an engagement, its a surprise so I can't say much, hence the reason i'm writing this early Saturday afternoon because I won't have time later and I know I'm a bit behind.

Wednesday 3 February 2010

I owe you VIRGIN!

Wednesday 3 February

Up until about 19:53, I didn't have anything to blog tonight but I'll share this with you because this is what the blog is about. In my spare room in which my daughter has laid claims to we have cable tv supplied by Virgin. Each night before she sleeps she asks to watch an episode of 'Timmy Time' or 'Big Cook, Little Cook'. Well I nearly fell of the wagon! I thought whilst no adult is in the house, I'll catch a sneak of some football. I searched hard amongst the listings for Sunday's Match of the day 2 so that I could get a fix and watch the Man Utd goals against Arsenal and for some reason Match of the Day, let alone Match of the Day 2 wasn't listed. I was half fumming, half relieved.

Timmy Time it was!!

So the challenge is still on ... (Just!!!)

What do I know about Music and Fashion?

Tuesday 2 February

Read an article this morning in last night's Evening Standard, talking about the revolutionary way in which sport will be broadcast in 3D and the article for some reason had to mention the Man Utd 3-1 defeat of Arsenal.

To be fair, I half expected my Arsenal supporting friends to deliberately write a comment here or something on my Facebook profile wall. I see now why they didn't and hope if they do beat Man Utd during this challenge, that they show the same discipline they showed on Sunday.

Speaking to a disillusioned follower this afternoon, who told me they stopped following because all I do is talk about football. Well that's not strictly true, I make reference to football related incidents that have happened during the day but not talk specifically about a football incident or match.

To reaffirm that this blog is me recording my journey as I give up following football for a year and I'm not going to all of a sudden start talking about Music and Fashion as I have no specialist knowledge in these subjects. I will talk about the other challenges I have and will undertaken. For instance the ebay challenge is going well sold a few items, however I've had more non paying bidders than paying so that's been a nusiance.

The college called me this morning, about the Photoshop course and told me that it may start in April or September depending on demand. The PA systems course starts on February 13th. My meeting with my friend has been arranged for this Saturday. I haven't started watching The Wire again, but I will.

Monday 1 February 2010

'Football is almost like a wife!'

Monday 1 February

Time for the one month review. The challenge is still on. That's the first point. January was relatively easy to start with because of all the cancellations due to the snow, so I didn't miss football too much. Towards the end it got harder as there were some good games on that I would have definitely watched, for instance the Carling Cup Semi-Final, Nigeria v Ghana and Man Utd v Arsenal. I didn't watch one single match, see one goal!! Fantastic achievement.

Although I did feel in the loop a little more than I should have by picking up on people's football chit chat. However, I don't know who one the first major International Football trophy of the year. I don't know the Man Utd v Arsenal result 24 hours after the game has been played.

I was accussed by a reader, of knowing too much and seeming to enjoy knowing about it. I had to say that what I knew was due to people being around me talking about football as opposed to me purposefully engaging in conversations.

For instance yesterday after church every single male was talking about the disgraceful display of Nigeria and how bad their coach was in the game versus Ghana. As well as from the usual banter of the tactics being wrong and the player's not being paid because the money was used to pay the background staff!! One even went as far as to say that Football is almost like a wife to him and after the Nigeria performance, it was if she had cheated on him!

It gets difficult from here because I sincerely don't remember any of the fixtures from February onwards. I remembered some of January's because I always checked the fixtures for weeks ahead.

One new challenge, I've identified for myself is to do a course in Photoshop, so watch this space.
